Poet, playwright, and activist Amiri Baraka returned to his hometown of Newark in the 1980s and with his wife, poet Amina Baraka, founded Spirithouse, an educational and spiritual institution for the African American community. The Baraka’s children are good friends with the Three Doctors. Amiri passed away in 2014 at the age of 79.
